Use of marketplace assets as development placeholders

Scars of Honor uses purchased marketplace assets as temporary placeholders during development. The cited example shows elemental creatures summoned by a mage; these models are described as in-production stand-ins rather than final game content.

The stated purpose of these assets is to let development proceed on gameplay systems before the project's own art pipeline is finished. The temporary models are not intended to appear in the released game.

Role in production workflow

A fully original creature or summon normally requires several stages: concept creation, concept approval, 3D modeling, texturing, rigging, and animation. Only after those steps are complete can the asset be fully integrated into gameplay development.

Using a ready-made asset changes that sequence. A purchased model may already include basic requirements such as movement, combat, and death animations. This allows the team to implement and test the underlying system first, instead of waiting for the complete art-production chain.

System-first development

The described workflow prioritizes building the full gameplay system around temporary assets. Once the system is complete, the placeholder models are removed and replaced with Scars of Honor's own art.

This approach is presented as a practical production method rather than a shortcut for final content creation. The distinction made is between using marketplace assets during development and shipping a game that still relies on those temporary assets.
