Mobile companion access as MMO convenience

Innovation in MMORPGs is framed as necessary to keep the genre from repeating the same formula indefinitely. One example proposed is mobile access used as a companion feature rather than as a replacement for the main PC experience.

Companion-style mobile features

The suggested use of mobile support is limited to convenience functions such as checking the auction house, chatting with guild members, or completing a quick daily task. This is presented as an extension of access rather than a redesign of the MMORPG around mobile-first gameplay.

Population and retention

The argument for companion access is tied to player retention and server population. Greater convenience is described as a way to keep more players engaged more often, which in turn supports the population density that MMORPGs need. A populated world is treated as essential, while a low-population game is described as a "ghost town."
