Undead Gronthar as a separate race concept
An undead version of the Gronthar is not treated as a simple variant of the existing race. It is described as something that would effectively require implementation as a new race rather than as a straightforward cosmetic option.
Why an undead Gronthar is not a simple variant
A purely visual undead treatment based only on textures is described as the easy part. However, a more complete undead presentation would require additional anatomical changes, such as visible bones and other altered features.
Because those changes go beyond surface texturing, the concept is framed as substantially new race work. The Gronthar body shape would also need to change to support an undead version, which further separates the idea from a basic skin or body-type option.
Implications for race design
The discussion suggests that race identity in Scars of Honor depends on more than color or texture treatment. Structural features and silhouette are part of what defines a race visually.
As a result, an undead Gronthar is presented less as an alternate state of the existing Gronthar and more as a distinct race concept with its own art requirements.
