Leveling pace and enjoyment philosophy in Scars of Honor
A short design discussion addresses leveling in Scars of Honor and argues that speed is less important than whether the process remains enjoyable.
Leveling speed versus leveling quality
Leveling is described as something that should not feel boring or like a chore. The central question is not whether leveling should be fast or slow, but how to make it fun and engaging throughout. The intended goal is for players to enjoy the time spent progressing rather than treating leveling as an obstacle before the "real game" begins.
Challenge is presented as part of that goal, but only to the extent that it remains motivating rather than frustrating enough to make players quit.
Exploration and discovery
Exploration is treated as a core part of MMO enjoyment. The sense of uncovering the unknown is described as one of the defining pleasures of older MMORPG play, and something Scars of Honor aims to emphasize. Rushing through content is framed as contrary to that experience.
The preferred model is a game in which players slow down, discover the world, and value the journey rather than only optimizing for endgame efficiency.
