Class lineup, talent structure, and tank-healer role design

The discussed class direction for Scars of Honor emphasizes role variety, stronger PvE group composition, and more active designs for tanks and healers. The upcoming build is described as using a talent system that makes each class feel closer to several sub-classes rather than a single fixed kit.

Upcoming class lineup

The classes named for the new build are knight, mage, ranger, and druid. The druid is especially important because it is expected to cover healer and tank functions needed for PvE testing. The knight is also described as having a tank-oriented build.

The ranger's weapon options are said to include bows, crossbows, and guns.

Talent system and class variety

The talent system has already been revealed elsewhere and is described here as a major uplift for the classes. Each class is said to have roughly three sub-class style branches, creating a much larger effective class variety. The intended result is that these variants play very differently from one another.

Tank design philosophy

Tank gameplay is described as something that should go beyond simply absorbing damage. The stated goal is to avoid tanks feeling like passive damage sponges or training dummies. Instead, tanks are meant to survive heavy punishment while also having moments of meaningful offensive output.

The design described includes mechanics that let tanks absorb substantial damage and then release significant damage in short windows. This offensive output is not meant to be constant, but it should create impactful moments and make the role feel more active.

Healer design philosophy

Healers are likewise described as needing more than repetitive health restoration. The intended design gives healers additional utility and the ability to contribute damage when appropriate, while still remaining weaker in pure damage than dedicated DPS classes.

Role shortages as a design problem

The common MMO shortage of tanks and healers is framed as a design issue rather than a player issue. The argument presented is that players avoid these roles when they are made too passive, too blame-heavy, or too limited in what they can do. Scars of Honor's solution is to make both roles more interactive and more broadly useful.
